What is Calendays.com?
Calendays.com is a universal and permanent calendar where everyone can
choose a particular day and create a unique page for that day - as
long as nobody has already taken that date.
For example, let's say that January 9, 1995 was a very special day for you.
With Calendays.com you could go to that date, click on that link that says
"Click here and make it yours forever", and create your page.
Then, when others visit that day (January 9, 1995) in Calendays.com they'll see your
page.
Can more than one page be created for a given date?
No. That's what makes Calendays.com a unique and special place.
Once your page has been created on a given day, that date will hold
your page and your page only forever. Nobody can create additional pages
on that special date, nor take over it. That date will always be yours.
So... How could I use Calendays.com?
Calendays.com is at this moment the only site that offers this service.
We believe that having a special date - whether the date is in the past or
in the future - associated to a permanent page can be a very precious thing to have.
It can also be a great gift to celebrate someone's anniversary, event, etc.
Your page in Calendays.com will always be there and you'll be the proud owner
of a very unique, personal and special space.
Can I dedicate my page to someone else?
Of course! As long as you don't include pornography or bad taste
you can pretty much do whatever you want. It's your page. Dedicate it to
a family member or a loved one, or reflect in
Calendays.com the day you launcehd your company, you met a good friend,
the day your first chind was born, or your very first trip to Hawaii.
Only you know what made a particular day so special. Now with Calendays.com
you can share it with the world.
Can I get a day for free?
If you select a day in the future (starting "today"), the price is 25 US$ per date.
For all other dates (in the past) you can create your first page completely free.
However, once you've created your first free page, if you want to get other dates, those won't be free.
Now, if you want to get a day in the future for free, or get a second day for free,
it's also very easy:
If you have a blog or a web page, all you have to do
is to write an entry about Calendays.com saying what you think
about it. You don't have to write something nice if you don't want to.
Then, send us a note with the link to your article.
Then, in about 24 hours we'll write back to you with a code to create a free page in
whatever date you want.
Why I cannot take as many days I want for free?
First, you can take as many days as you want, but only the first
one is free. Why? Well, if anyone could "grab" as many days as he or
she wanted without giving anything in return, someone could take
hundreds of days, and that wouldn't be fair to others who might enjoy
a given date for really special reasons, right?
Also, we didn't want to limit the number of dates a person could take,
and that's why we decided to offer the first date for free and any charge for
any other dates.
Can I modify my page after I've created it?
Yes.
You have up to 30 days to make any modifications you want.
After those 30 days, you will not be able to change your page anymore, and
it will be "carved in stone" in Calendays.com forever.
Why can't I edit or delete my page after 30 days?
We want Calendays.com to be a display of everlasting, impassable pages, one per calendar day.
That's what makes Calendays.com special.
Can I resell my pages in Calendays.com?
No. Although you can give a page as a gift to someone else,
you cannot engage in any commercial activity related to the ownership of
the page.
I'm interested in a day that's already taken. What can I do?
Sorry but someone was faster than you. We suggest you to think of another
day that is/was significant to you and see if it's still available. But
hurry before someone else beat you again!
Can I use HTML to design my page?
You page has three blocks: One on top where you can write whatever you
want- including HTML if you want. One in the middle where you can upload a photo.
And finally another block of text under the photo where, again, you can
use HTML if you want.
Do I really need to upload a photo?
No. It's optional. If you don't upload a photo, your page will only
display the two text blocks mentioned in the previous answer.
Who runs Calendays.com? Have you patented this idea?
We're two guys who live somewhere in Europe.
Here, software patents are not allowed, and by the way,
we're perfectly fine with that.
How did you come up with this brilliant/stupid idea?
It was when we visited a site named myminutes.org. In that site,
a person can buy a page that goes associated to a minute at a
given date.
But there were things we didn't like about that concept.
First, while you could relate to a moment in your life and
associate it with a particular minute, as time goes by,
people won't remember the exact minute something happened.
They remember the date.
People celebrate events associated with days, not minutes:
4th of July, our birthdays, the day we got married, the day
we started our business...
And of course it's the lucrative side of the business.
They're selling over 500,000 minutes. At 1 euro each, a
sold-out calendar would mean 500,000 euros in clean profits.
In our case, we're selling each day for $25. That
means that in the event Calendays sold one full year, it'd
make a whooping $9,125. Consider now that the first day
you get is free, and that we expect most people will be
happy doing just that, and you'll see that our aim is not to
strike riches but to offer something meaningful to you. And if in the
process, we manage to cover our expenses, then great.
When did you officially launched Calendays.com?
We've been working on this for a few weeks, including beta testing
and what not, but the official launch date is August 20th, 2007.
Have you done something like this before? How can I trust my page will stay up?
In January 2006 we launched
1000tags.com, a site
were you could buy a tag (a word), and keep that tag associated to your web site.
The site generated a lot of buzz and many copycats sprang after us. Now, more than
1 year and a half later, despite we now only get a request for a tag every now and
then, the site is still up, and will continue up, of course. Same thing with
Calendays.com. We plan to keep Calendays.com up and running for as many years
as possible. It's pretty easy to maintain, and let's be honest, the costs of
keeping it up are pretty low. You'll come back in five years and Calendays.com will still
be there. Will it be up in 2100? Well, we don't know, but it's really too early to tell (perhaps
in 50 years URLs and web pages are replaced by something else or who knows...)
